Another Night Of Grand Guignol

February the 7th through the 23rd

The Bakery Arts Warehouse

Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol was a Victorian theatre in Paris that specialized in showcasing the most stylized, gory and shocking horror theatre in the world. Founded in melodrama, the Grand Guignol’s plays were meant to stun and terrorize audiences; and the theatre even boasted an on-staff doctor to resuscitate victimized patrons. Our fourth presentation of Grand Guignol will showcase two timeless scripts originally performed in the 1900's, revived for a second life in Denver with a Valentine’s Day twist and underscored with live music by George Sepmeier. There truly is no better way to celebrate the month of love than with a little horror….

Theater 29 Denver

Last year, we received an envelope in the mail with no return address and no name. When we opened the envelope, we found a script titled Laveau penned by an unnamed writer, written on old paper with a typewriter. In the tale, Brigitte, a woman in New Orleans, is searching for her estranged mother when she begins having vivid nightmares about the bayou. As the nightmares become more surreal, a voodoo-esque magic bleeds into her life, blurring the line between dreams and reality. This surreal, spooky, and beautiful piece will feature live shadow puppetry designed by Katy Williams.
